Cerny also confirmed the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games, as the two consoles are built upon similar internal architectures. PS4 games will even run faster than they do on your current console, in part because the PS5 will contain a solid-state drive. The company has confirmed the PlayStation 5 will contain an AMD chip that has a CPU based on the third-generation Ryzen. It will have eight cores of the seven-nanometer Zen 2 microchip. To offer more immersive gaming experience, Sony has also included a capable graphics card on the board (AMD’s Radeon Navi family). The console will also support 8K gameplay. This graphics chip will support ray tracing, a technology to create surreal visual effects using dynamic lighting and reflections which is starting to become popular in movies and video games.

As PS5 equips SSD the games will load faster and be able to handle more objects on-screen at once than current HDD-driven consoles. The device also supports physical discs. So, even if the in-built SSD storage is full, user can use Blu-ray discs to play the games. It is possible it could handle 4k UHD Blu-rays which can carry around twice as much data as standard Blu-ray discs. Remote Play is already available as part of the PS4 package, Sony says that it will be leveraging the latest computing, streaming, cloud and 5G technologies to allow it and improve the performance of PlayStation.

Bringing the PS5, Sony won’t give up on the PS4/PS4 Pro just yet. The company will still continue its support to the last gen devices for the next three years. With the performance of PS4, which is still doing pretty well in the gaming industry, you can expect the return of some of the games you have always wanted to play.
