A GoPro is primarily a small, handheld, waterproof camera that is capable of being mounted or placed just about anywhere in order to get a unique angle or shot. GoPro’s are capable of capturing videos, stills, time-lapse, photo bursts, and night photography as well as underwater photography. GoPro Hero 7 was launched paying attention to key areas like video stabilisation, great videos, great images and most importantly great fun.
There are three different models of the GoPro Hero 7: White, Silver and Black. The White is the cheapest, and with the least amount of features. The Silver is a step up and has 4K video as well as WDR photos, but it lacks the main features. The GoPro Hero 7 Black is the bees knees when it comes to action cameras that comes with new ‘Hypersmooth’ electronic image stabilisation. It still incorporates the same 12MP sensor and the same wide-angle lens.
The purpose of the Hero 7 is to drastically increase the cameras stability when filming. Whereas in previous model Hero 6, it requires the use of Karma Grip, a stabilisation gimbal for incredible, smooth footage while filming. Basically Hero 7 Black has one of the most amazing inbuilt stabilisation systems of any action camera available, which means it doesn’t need a gimbal to capture smooth footage.
TimeWarp video is a further new feature on the Hero 7 Black, one that combines the idea of regular frame-by-frame time-lapse shooting with HyperSmooth- essentially, a stabilised hyper lapse. It allows to capture time-lapse footage with the freedom to move the GoPro at all times. Time lapse footage without a tripod can be recorded with whatever movement you want.
Another new option on the Hero 7 Black is SuperPhoto. When selecting SuperPhoto mode, the Hero 7 calculates the best White Balance, minimum and maximum ISO levels, sharpness and colour to create an HDR photo. HDR are often over edited photos with excessive contrast, saturation and vibrance. However, the Hero 7 doesn’t seem to over edit the photos it captures while on SuperPhoto mode. Raw images can be captured in addition to JPEGs on the Hero 7 Black, and also shoot bursts of images at a maximum 30fps.
The GoPro Hero7 Black offers the same kind of rugged and largely rubbered body as the Hero 6 Black, although the sides of the devices are now just as smooth as the front, rather than ridged. Without a housing the camera can travel 10m/33ft safely underwater, although with the optional Super Suit can go even deeper. Turn the GoPro on and you can see the things has changed around. The UI has been refreshed that provides key information such as current frame rate and resolution condensed into a smaller space, and green icons to show battery life and remaining cards space.
