Alienware m15 R2 is
ready to hit the market which is a completely new laptop. The laptop not only
feature the latest high-end gaming components on the inside, but also the
exterior design has been completely transformed. In m15 R2 the chassis is set
to eventually replace the barely one-year old first generation Alienware m15.
It’s flatter, thinner, looks more mature and has a lot of tweaks. It carved out
an amazing new design language, gaining influence more from THX 1138 than
Alien. It features a magnesium alloy chassis and has dark gray and light gray
color options as the Area-51m.
It doesn’t use
mechanical switches in keyboard but it has a 1.7mm travel distance and a
defined actuation point to provide tactile feel. The keys have per-key RGB backlighting which
is all customizable through the Alienware Command Center software. The touchpad
is better too, it is carried over from the XPS laptops which tend to have more
responsive surfaces. The m15 R2 includes a modest array of ports. On the back
there is HDMI, mini-DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 3, proprietary Alienware Graphics
Amplifier and DC Power. There is a USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 port, an RJ-45 ethernet port
and a headphone jack on the left side. And the right side has two more USB-A
ports.
The Alienware m15 R2 features 9th Gen Intel core processors. The base config starts with an i5-9300H and goes up to an i9-9980HK at 5GHz. There’s a legion of graphics options- GTX 1650, GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 2060, RTX 2070 Max-Q or RTX 2080 Max-Q. The m15 R2 comes with either 8GB or 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 2666MHz and starts with a 256GB SSD for storage. Dual-storage options are available, maxing out at 4TB.
The 15.6-inch display on the Alienware m15 R2 starts with 1080p 60Hz refresh rate. From there you can jump to a 1080p with a 240Hz refresh rate which will be the best option for most gamers. On the top end, you can snag a 4K 60Hz OLED screen. The latter two options will come with optional Tobii Eye-tracking technology. Alienware will also let you plug in more powerful monitors through its Thunderbolt 3 port. It’s new Cryo Tech Cooling 3.0 takes care of heat management.
